The Board of the Islamic Conference Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation (ICYF-DC) expresses its deep concerns over the dangerous development of tensions between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sparked by execution of the minority-group cleric and followed by attacks on the diplomatic missions.

ICYF-DC is particularly concerned on prospect of transformation of these tensions into larger scale inter-sectarian conflict, which poses potential grave danger for unity of Ummah, further escalation of on-going violence in the region (where young people become both first rank recruits and victims) and hinders necessary cooperation in the region towards combating threats of inhumane terrorist and extremist ideologies and groups such as Daesh. While calling on youth constituency to avoid being trapped into inter-sectarian violence as “response” to the afore-mentioned developments ICYF-DC invites all the parties concerned to restrain from escalation of the conflict in particular exposing young people to rhetoric of intra-sectarian hatred.

ICYF-DC expresses its hope for resolution of tensions via diplomatic means and, if necessary through good-office mediation of authoritative OIC Member States.
