ICYF-DC President H.E. Amb. Elshad Iskandarov has commented on the statement of the ICYF-DC Board condemning the killing of Azerbaijani civilians – 18 months toddler Zahra and her grandmother by the Armenian armed forces in the Fuzuli region of Azerbaijan.
Referring to the statement of the Board, Amb. Iskandarov stated that ICYF-DC strongly condemns this act of vandalism which constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, in particular the 1949 Geneva Convention, the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
The ICYF-DC Board’s statement referring to the international law and the relevant decisions of the OIC Ministerial Conferences on protection of children as well as the resolution No. 10/43-POL on the Aggression of the Republic of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan called on the OIC Member States to take the necessary actions to dissuade the Republic of Armenia and its leadership from brutality towards the civilian people of the Republic of Azerbaijan and to stop the illegal occupation of Azerbaijani lands.
On July 4, at the result of targeted and deliberate attacking of civilians and civilian objects of the Alkhanli village of Fuzuli region of Azerbaijan by armed forces of Armenia with 82 and 120 mm mortars and heavy grenade launchers Guliyeva Sahiba (born in 1967) and her 2 years old granddaughter Guliyeva Zahra were killed. Another civilian Guliyeva Sarvinaz (born in 1965) was wounded and civilian objects sustained damages.
ICYF-DC convey’s its heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of victims as well as to the people of Azerbaijan and wishes speedy recovery to the wounded.
