ICYF-DC President speaks on countering extremism at Tehran ConferenceTAHRAN. 9 December 2014.
ICYF-DC high level delegation headed by the organization’s President Amb. Elshad Iskandarov participates in the 1st International Conference on “World Against Violence and Extremism” organized by MFA’s IPIS in Tehran, on 9-10 December 2014, under the relevant UN General Assembly resolution. Within the course of the Conference Amb. Elshad Iskandarov delivered a speech at the panel on “Globalization and terrorism” presenting ICYF-DC vision on denying violent and extremist movements to recruit youth generation.
Mentioning 4 types of youth recruited by extremist groups namely identity-seekers, revenge-seekers status-seekers and adventure-seekers the speaker proposed implementation of different policies and approaches to eradicate root causes of different youth groups joining extremists.
Talking about international measure to prevent terrorism Amb. Iskandarov stressed that not punishing perpetrators of terrorist atrocities on the grounds of “good terrorist” vs. “bad terrorist” in the past paved the way for atrocities we are witnessing today in the world. “If perpetrators of Khojaly massacre of about 1000 civilian Azerbaijanis were punished, we wouldn’t have witnessed 8000 victims of Srebrenitsa and tens of thousands ISIS victims today” – stressed the speaker pointing on similarity of ISIS strategies to those of Armenian terrorists employed during the Khojaly genocide, both utilizing public media display of the massacres as means of mass intimidation.
