ICYF-DC Delegation headed by H.E. Amb. Elshad Iskandarov, the President of ICYF-DC takes part in the work of the 6th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women’s Role in the Development of OIC Member States held in Istanbul, on 1-3 November 2016.
The Opening Ceremony of the Conference on 2 November was inaugurated by H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the President of the Republic of Turkey. H.E. President Erdoğan in his speech mentioned the important challenges and problems the OIC geography faces nowadays and stressed the importance of the development of women in the Member States to achieve their equal participation in the societies by stressing that the Muslim world needed strong families and nations and that cannot be secured by isolating women. President Erdoğan declared: “Strength cannot be acquired through isolating women. The mentality of ‘Let’s keep women at home and away from everything’ is not the route to strength.” He stated that women should be present in every sector of society and described this as one of the main reasons why the West was further ahead.
Talking about the support Turkey extends to the work of the OIC and the OIC institutions the President referred to his support toward establishment of ICYF-DC in 2006 as the OIC affiliated institution with his personal participation at its inauguration ceremony held in Istanbul. He also underlined the success of and important decision by the 3rd Session of the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers held in Istanbul, on 5-7 October 2016 (organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey, OIC General Secretariat, ICYF-DC and ISSF).
In his speech the President underlined courage of Turkish women on the night of the July 15 coup attempt by the FETO terrorist organization noting “Our women were at the forefront.” The sensuous documentary titled “Women Heroes of 15 July” presented by the Ministry of Family and Social Policies of the Republic of Turkey during the Opening Ceremony of the Conference caused to the emotive reaction of the audience followed by heart-full words of support to Turkey expressed on behalf of the conference by the State Minister of Azerbaijan and out-going Chair of the Women’s Conference Dr. Hijran Huseynova.
The 6th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women’s Role in the Development of OIC Member States will finish its work on 3 November 2016 with adoption of the final documents and presentation of the (newly established) OIC Council on Women issues and Good Will Ambassadors on woman and family empowerment.
