The “Quran Recitation Contest”, a Sub-Event of Shiraz – OIC Youth Capital 2017 International Program Was Successfully Held on 30 October – 1 December 2017

The “Quran Recitation Contest”, a sub-event of Shiraz – OIC Youth Capital 2017 international program was successfully held on 30 October – 1 December 2017, in Shiraz, Islamic Republic of Iran. Throughout the program co-organized by ICYF-DC, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Iran and Fars Province of Iran, over 55 youth participants from 17 different countries competed in the fields of Recitation and Hifz. The international Jury of the Contest announced the winners in the Award Ceremony:

Memorization: Faruk Şahin (Turkey), Navid Razmonji (Iran)
Recitation: Enes Abdullah Görgülü (Turkey), Javad Hasimzade (Iran), Muhammed bin Ahmed Zahid (Malaysia)

In the Contest’s closing ceremony, Mr. Elchin Asgarov (Director of Eurasian Regional Center of ICYF-DC) delivered a congratulatory statement on behalf of H.E. Amb. Elshad Iskandarov President of ICYF-DC, emphasizing the need for youth to serve as embodiments to the words of the Holy Qur’an, in deeds and example. To that end, Amb. Iskandarov called on youth to stay true to their spiritual heritage, and adopt identities of constructive unity and cooperation: a necessity for the harmony and prosperity of the Muslim world.

The speaker of honor, Prof. Dr. Hasan Kamil Yılmaz, Grand Mufti of Istanbul, delivered his address during the closing ceremony along with H.E. Dr. Sayed Abdulhamid Ahmadi, Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports of Iran, H.E. Ismail Tabardar, Governor of Fars Province in the presence of high-level local and international guests.

The OIC Youth Capital programme was endorsed by the 43rd Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers within the Joint Youth Action Plan to be implemented in the OIC Member States, as adopted by the 3rd Islamic Conference of Youth and Sport Ministers. Istanbul was the first OIC Youth Capital (2016), followed by Shiraz, Putrajaya and Fes in 2017. The next OIC Youth Capital will be Al Quds Al Sharif in 2018.
