President of the ICYF-DC, Amb. Elshad Iskandarov adresses with a key-note speech at the A Common World Among the Youth (ACWAY) international forum on “Preventing conflict – Promoting Harmony, Global Collaboration for Local Action” held on 16th December 2015 in the ISESCO Headquarters in Rabat, co-organized by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICID) and Right Start Foundation International.
Talking to exciting audience of more than 100 young leaders representing different cultures and religions, Amb. Iskandarov focused on root-causes of contemporary radicalisation of young people in the Muslim geography. He stressed that there are 4 major groups of young people who join terrorist groups like ISIS: revenge, status, identity and adventure – seekers. He further offered that different strategies should be developed to counter those different challenges, mentioning that both governments and societies were not flexible enough to produce social opportunities for young people (in the aftermath of Arab Spring) similar to ones developed by European countries in the aftermath of 60’s youth revolts.
During his speech, Amb. Iskandarov also invited mainstream youth of different background to cooperate together in jointly countering radicals of all sorts from terrorist to Islamophobs. As massive and innovative platform to network young people in expressing their creativity in strive for intercultural harmony Amb. Iskandarov introduced the First OIC Youth Capital International Programme being run in Istanbul by ICYF-DC and invited participants of the Conference to join its events and activities throughout 2016.
