On the eve of the 2nd anniversary of July 15 coup attempt in Turkey by the Gulenist Terror Organization (FETÖ), ICYF-DC President H.E. Amb. Elshad Iskandarov made a statement.

Highlighting the important role of brave Turkish nation to defeat the terrorist group aimed at change of the constitutional order and take over powers of the legitimately elected government, Amb. Iskandarov commemorated the heroic martyrs of Turkish democracy.

ICYF-DC President Amb. Elshad Iskandarov has stated: “Brave and mature citizens of Turkey, including its youth, who in response to courageous call by H.E. President Erdogan confronted tanks and gunmen of FETÖ while demonstrating heroism and sacrificing their lives in defense of Turkish democracy which is star of hope for development, security and stability of the region and Muslim world at large. We are commemorating the true heroes and martyrs of democracy with deep respect and duas. As in the night from 15 to 16 July, today ICYF-DC with the same decisiveness is committed to inform properly international community, in particular Muslim youth on the true character of the ill-fated coup attempt.”

ICYF-DC was the first international organization condemning the coup attempt issuing an urgent statement in the night from 15 to 16 July (http://www.icyf-dc.org/icyf-dc-board-statement-on-recent-c…/ ). ICYF-DC senior officials were among the civilians bravely standing against the tanks in the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul (now Martyrs of Democracy Bridge) in that night. ICYF-DC in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey, has organized right after the coup attempt an international youth camp – namely “Youth with Turkey” with participation of 300 youth from the OIC geography.

Camp participants has adopted the “OIC Youth stands with Turkish Democracy: Strength in Solidarity” declaration which was announced through local and international media as well as social media (http://www.icyf-dc.org/declaration-of-the-1st-icyf-dc-yout…/). In the framework of this activity the social media campaign with the hashtag#YouthWithTurkey reached to 8 million people. The declaration was also presented to the Ministers of Youth and Sports of the OIC Member States in the Opening Ceremony of the 3rd Session of the Islamic Conference of Youth and Sports Ministers held in Istanbul, on 5-7 October 2017.
